This would be your index page. This page is the most important page
on your whole site. It is the one that decides if your visitors stay
or go. Therefore, you need to make it peak their curiosity enough
that they will click your other links and see what all you have to
offer.
If you have sponsors, you might want to use the right column for
small banner logos. You might even want to offer advertising if you
get your page into the top of the search engines.
Some companies place their mission on their home page but in our
opinion, this should be placed on the about us page. Some say no
photos of products on the home page, but again, we think that having
some photos of your most important products would be fine, providing
they are not real heavy files. You don't want to put large heavy
photos on this page, or any page as far as that goes. There are many
people that are in areas that cannot have access to high speed
internet connection. True, most do, but there are some that don't.
This small percentage will have to wait for your page to load with
heavy files. This may cause them to leave your site before they see
what you have to offer.
